Joe Goldberg, the main character of Netflix´s ¨You,¨ is a member in good standing of Manhattan´s minor literary aristocracy. As the owner of an independent bookstore, he has a serious credit line with the legions of young and not so young bright young things who crowd the aisles of his store in search of the next printed distraction from the stark realities of life in the biggest and busiest of big and busy cities.
Joe is young, handsome, charming and extremely well read. When it comes to what really counts in the quip-rich habitat of New York´s culturati, when engaged in one of those subterfuge-rich conversations with another member of that tribe he can quote chapter and verse from the latest New York Review of Books review faster than you can say ¨After I get my English Lit. degree from Columbia I plan to drive Uber for the rest of my life or at least until my genius is finally recognized.¨
So you see, young Joe is a veritable Prince of the City; a prince who likes the girls (and vice versa) and is a major magnet for hip and highly literate New Yorker-ettes.
There´s just one problem.
Joe just won´t take ”no” for an answer…
