When faced with global extinction—certain death to life as we know it—how would you react? Would you run around burning stores and looting? Would you spend your remaining time with your friends and family? Could you be one of the people who try to save humanity?

Currently occupying the number 4 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 in the U.S, Don’t Look Up has become an unexpected hit with an iconic flavor. Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) discover a large comet orbiting towards Earth. When they share their discovery with the highest power in the United States, however, no one in the White House seems to care enough to take action.

There is a message to be taken away from every film, and this film has many of them. The performances of screen icons Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence notwithstanding, the main appeal of this movie is its relevance to the conflicts that modern society faces and just about everyone can relate to; whether it be climate change, science denial and / or government overreach.
